One of the best ways to build community is to gather people in one place with a shared purpose. That is exactly why we created our First Annual Battle of the Parks. On August 1st, we welcomed young athletes ages 9 to 12 for a free day of competition and fun.
Kids battled through four events, the 60-Yard Dash, the “Golden Arm” throwing accuracy challenge, Pitching for Accuracy, and the crowd-favorite Home Run Derby. But the real magic was not on the leaderboard. It was in the new friendships, the shared cheers, and the families connecting on the sideline. That is how a community is born.
Events like this pull kids out of their usual team bubble. A rec-league player from one side of town meets a travel-ball player from another. Parents swap tips about tryouts and coaches and schedules. By the end of the day, families who arrived as strangers are trading phone numbers. We plan to keep hosting events like this because they knit our baseball and softball families together in a way that regular practice never can.
Giving Back Is Part of the Game
We believe a strong community takes care of its own. That is why Battle of the Parks doubled as a school supply drive. Instead of an entry fee, each athlete brought supplies that we donated to a local school right before the school year began.
Teaching kids that being a great athlete also means being a great neighbor is one of our proudest jobs. When young players learn to give, they grow into leaders. The lessons learned in our cages are meant to last a lifetime, on and off the field.
Giving back is not a one-time stunt for us either. It is a thread we want woven through everything we do, from events to camps to the everyday way we talk to kids.
